PenFed Platinum Rewards Visa Signature Card review
PenFed Platinum Rewards Visa Signature Card so the card earns five points per dollar spence on gas purchases at the pump it also earns five points per dollar spence at electric vehicle charging stations
Which is really unique to see also you earn three points per dollar spent on supermarket purchases and by the way that would include most walmart and target locations according to penn fed which is pretty rare to see usually walmart and target are specifically excluded from
The definition of a supermarket usually they call them a superstore in this case though pen fed says that they will also earn three points per dollar spent on top of that
You earn three points per dollar spent at restaurants and on dining and three points per dollar spent on cable satellite and other television radio and streaming services and then you earn one point per dollar spent on all other purchases so at first glance the card seems amazing seems like
You're going to be able to build up a whole bunch of rewards with the card and I think for a lot of people that indeed could be the case but since this is a rewards card not necessarily a cash back card you also have to factor in not only the absolute number of rewards or the absolute number of points
That you'll earn but how you can redeem them and what they could be worth when you do go to redeem them so with this card you basically have three main redemption options you can get gift cards which is probably
You know the most flexible option overall you can also redeem for travel or you can shop with your points the value of your points will depend on the option that you choose generally you want to shoot for a value of at least one cent per point
But that's not always realistic and indeed with this card I would say the redemption options are somewhat of a low point I think if you do manage to get one cent per point in value you're doing really good
But I think in many cases it could be less now as for other things to know about the card it has a zero dollar annual fee so it's not costing you anything to keep it in your wallet year to year and it does not charge any foreign transaction fees so you can use the card outside the us just like
You would inside the us and you avoid the dreadful three percent foreign transaction fee you don't have to worry about that with this card so I think that's a really good thing uh also the card usually comes with at least from what I've seen in the past uh the opportunity to earn a sign-up bonus
I won't mention the specific signup bonuses running right now because it could change so if you want to see the current sign up bonus situation check out our full review we should have the updated details in that full review
So you can see if there is a sign up bonus and if there is one what the specificities are like so check out the full review and the card does have a pretty impressive list of perks and insurance items again more information on our website
I would say overall uh this is a pretty good rewards card maybe the only thing holding it back uh are the redemption options but who knows maybe you end up liking those or something changes I think if you can get comfortable there it ends up being a really good card to explore further.
